John Barkley, MD, FCCP

Dr. Barkley served in the role of Chief Medical Officer for Atrium Health Continuing Care Services for 13 years where his responsibilities included oversight of the five Atrium Health skilled nursing facilities, two hospice agencies and Atrium Health at Home.  Dr. Barkley received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of North Carolina prior to completing an internship and residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine. In 2002, Dr. Barkley left private practice in Pulmonary & Critical Care to become the first paid Medical Director at what was then Hospice at Charlotte (now Via Health Pratners). There, Dr. Barkley started the first Palliative Care services in the Charlotte region and was the Chief Medical Officer of Hospice at Charlotte until assuming the Chief Medical Officer role with Atrium Health in April 2010.
