Philanthropic support is a cornerstone of The Pines’ history.

Charitable giving sustains vibrant living in a college community.

“Residents are engaged in charitable giving to The Pines because we see and benefit from our gifts at work. It is a win-win situation. For us, this act of giving has translated into the joy of living.”

The Pines at Davidson is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization: gifts to The Pines are tax deductible, to the extent permitted by law. Current and planned gifts to The Pines help ensure that this special community continues its charitable mission.

Since its founding, The Pines and its residents have benefited from an active fund raising effort.  Members and friends of Davidson College Presbyterian Church provided the initial $2,000,000 in gifts and pledges that helped establish The Pines in the early 1980s. In 1994, supporters raised $1,040,000 to expand the Schramm Health Center and increase The Pines’ Resident Support Fund. In 1999, The Pines was able to open its Warm-Water Therapy Pool, thanks to approximately $2,979,000 in outright and deferred gifts.

During its Preserve and Progress Campaign, The Pines received more than $2,000,000 in gifts and pledges to help finance the renovation and expansion of its health care and community center facilities, completed in 2008.  In 2020, The Pines completed its Great People, Special Places Campaign, raising more than $3.5 million to build a new nursing wing and expand its fitness, dining and other community spaces.
