Ms. Hancock attended Agnes Scott College and graduated from Queens College (now Queens University) with a B.A. degree in English and French. Almost 20 years later she earned the M.A. degree in Speech Communication from Wake Forest University. She began her career teaching English, Advanced World Literature, Speech Communication, and Introduction to Foreign Languages in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. After a hiatus to raise a family of four children, she began a second career as a management consultant, executive coach, strategic planning facilitator, trainer of trainers, and developer and instructor of leadership programs for major corporations, local and Federal government, and non-profits. She is a Founding Partner of Alexander Hancock Associates and retired in 2023. Her work took her to 24 states and 10 foreign countries as she worked with every level from the executive suites to the factory floor. Before moving to Davidson in 1985 she was actively engaged in civic life in Charlotte. At United Family Services (now Safe Alliance) she served several years on the Board of Directors and one year as chair. One of her passions was bringing attention to the problem of domestic violence. When Charlotte was struggling to implement school integration, Ms. Hancock chaired the Quality Education Committee, a group of citizens from all across the County dedicated to ensuring a quality education for all children. This group was chosen by Judge McMillan to design the integration plan that was adopted by the School Board. She also co-chaired the first community-wide celebration of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She has been an active member of Davidson United Methodist Church, where she taught numerous Bible study classes and chaired several committees, including the Ministry to Seniors committee. She and her husband moved to the Pines in 2017. Between them, they have 6 children (including 3 Davidson College graduates) and 12 grandchildren.
